PHYSICAL THERAPY

What to expect

 WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN MY TREATMENT

Treatment of clients will begin with taking a detailed history to determine the events leading up to your decision to seek out  physical therapy care.  This will be followed by a detailed physical assessment which will include specific tests and measures for screening, establishing a diagnosis and providing ongoing monitoring.

Assessment findings will be analyzed and reviewed with you to identify the nature and extent of your injury, impairments, activity limitations, and restrictions.

Once a diagnosis is determined, a treatment plan will be developed with you, based on assessment findings and clinical reasoning to determine your abilities, functional needs and potential for change.  From here we will work closely with you to help you move towards your goal of recovery.

As part of your treatment you may be exposed to a variety of physical therapy interventions which may be taken from the following broad categories:

  • Education
  • Soft tissue and Manual therapy techniques; including Massage, spinal and peripheral joint mobilization and/or manipulation.
  • Personalized therapeutic exercise including testing, conditioning and neurotherapeutic approaches to improve strength, range of motion and function.
  • Physical, electrotherapeutic and/or mechanical agents (modalities).
  • Dry needling.
  • Functional activity and tolerance testing and training.
  • Meaningful activity re-training and return to activity planning.
  • Prescription, fabrication and application of assistive, adaptive, supportive and protective devices and equipment.
  • Environmental change, focusing on removing barriers to function.

Interventions will be selected to safely reduce pain; achieve and maintain mobility, health and fitness, functional independence and physical performance; and manage any identified impairments, disabilities and limits to your participation in activity.
